I have been reading books by this new author, Louise Bagshawe.
I only read two of her books, Glitz and Glamour.
They were both pretty captivating but they left me feeling a little useless.
The main story line was about the same for both books.
They talked about girls who grew up in luxury, but reached some sort of downfall and suddenly needed to work to earn their keep.
The main characters in the book make it seem like it is possible to achieve ANYTHING if you are brave enough or smart enough.
So many of them just woke up one day and decided: I want to open my own company.
and they are instantly successful in it, earning millions within the first few months.
What makes it worse is that one of the characters in the book I most recently read had a take home annual pay of 200k in POUNDS by the time she was 20.
Me?
Let's see. This morning, I cleaned my room and the toilet, made myself lunch.
and all that is on my mind now is how I am going to get my hands on some cream so that I can bake those scones I've been wanting to bake since last week.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!?
and even with all this self examination and what not
I don't feel that I should leave the warmth of my bed because it is raining outside.
Someone needs to inject some motivation into me.
I have got to be the laziest bum on earth.

Nightmare Aunties.
I just had a whole night of fantastic calming happy dreams but I HAD to end off with one that left me angry.
I dreamt that FIVE aunties barged into my flat and reprimanded me for hanging out clothes when the weather wasn't windy.
That caused the water from my clothes to drip onto theirs.
So I said that IF they ONLY hung out clothes when the weather was windy, like they are telling me to,
then me hanging out clothes when it isn't shouldn't affect them!
But they said that they hang out an odd piece or two.
so I should just avoid hanging clothes out when it isn't windy.
WHAT?!?
but anyway, they were just in my house touching everything and complaining their heads off.
which made me SUPER ANGRY.
so I just CHASED THEM ALL OUT.
then I woke up, panting.
Because my heart was beating so fast from all the anger.
And I couldn't go back to sleep to cover up the dream with another one that is nicer :(
I remember some of their faces.
IF I EVER SEE THEM...........
grrr.

A Perfect Seven.
Today was a super awesome slack day.
Napped half the day away,
read a bit of my book,
had awesome flashback to childhood days with Quen by drinking Dutch Lady banana milk :D
I can't believe he used to like it too!!!!
Lydia and Leah always wrinkled their noses in disgust when I drank it :(
But now I have someone to be strange with :D
This week is recess week for the NUS kids.
which means I can disturb Quen more..
Although not THAT much more...
but I'm happy with whatever extra time we get :)
My life's going down a small strange path now.
I seem to have gotten myself involved with the Truthmin worship team..
Not exactly in a huge way
but I'm going to be helping them out a bit with the free time I have on my hands...
I'm actually kind of excited to see where this takes me!

Weirdest collection of dreams EVER.
I just woke up from a two hour nap.
SO going to have trouble sleeping tonight.
I decided I should blog before I forget the details of what was the WEIRDEST COLLECTION OF DREAMS EVER.
The first thing I remember is this semi-reoccurring dream I have involving some lifts.
It is semi-reoccurring because the venue is always different, but the lifts are always the same.
The building always has two different lobbies which can only be reached by their respective lifts.
There is the usual electronic lifts we see everywhere, the ones with the buttons and all...
but there are also these strange lifts that seem different from the usual ones..
the lift doors are manually closed, and they are operated by a lift operator (A person).
There is a lift A which you take if wherever you plan to go is in Tower A, and a lift B if you want to go to Tower B.
In this dream, I was trying to get to some shop in Tower B with Quen..
The lifts are often situated in some dingy place, much like the backroom or some loading bay like area...
In general, they are usually pretty run down and they also often open up to a very strange lift lobby.
In this dream, you have to climb some water stairs (Don't look at me like that. I told you the dreams were weird.)
Water stairs are like escalators that have water running down from them..
And the most horrifying thing is that at the end of them, people can fall through them and go to some other area.
And that is exactly what Quen did (I was pretty upset at him at this point for not listening to my warnings.)
So anyway, I decided he deserved it and headed toward the next location on my own.
I climb up these stairs and I notice that it is the back entrance of some restaurants.
I recognized a skirt hanging off the stair railings as part of the uniform I used to wear while working at Royal Sri Thai in Brisbane!
I look through the curtain covering the doorway and I see a fried fish restaurant run by the people I used to work for at the Thai restaurant in Australia!!! (curiouser and curiouser)
I hear someone behind me and I turn to see Uncle Agnew climbing up the stairs.
for some reason, I felt I needed to run away from him or at least not be alone.
So I stepped into the restaurant which made some of the waitresses think I was an intruder of some sort.
I managed to wriggle out of it by saying I was a friend of Joanne (who was my former boss at Royal Sri Thai) and name a few other waitresses I used to work with.
It gets better.
I then leave the restaurant somehow (I don't remember how), and run into my mom working at a fast food joint!!!!
She was working with some youngsters and she started telling me about how she enjoys working there because she gets along so well with her colleagues and all.
AND GET THIS.
I bought something from her and because it was buy two get one free,
I got THREE bags AUTOGRAPHED BY P.Diddy.
No, I am NOT kidding.
I remember telling someone "LOOK AT THIS! AUTOGRAPHED BY P.DIDDY!"
I am not even a fan.
I only know his name because people talk about him.
I don't even have a clue what P.diddy looks like.
No, that wasn't the end.
We moved on to having a sleepover with the friendsters..
We were heading over to my place when I discovered a fresh hole in my left thigh that looked like a very bad cigarette burn but it didn't hurt...
I remember the wound very clearly but I won't even begin to describe it because my stomach is turning already, just thinking about it.
The last thing I remember was being at a party celebrating the birth of an angmoh kid named Sarah (or Sara) Sawyer.
I remember hearing the emcee say "It's not surprising she's named Sarah (or sara) considering the products the midwife has been using on her"...
I don't know why but the first thing I thought of was that the baby probably ate a whole ton of Sara Lee cakes.
So that ends the weirdest collection of dreams ever.
If dreams are formed from our imagination,
My imagination lost it's mind.

YMLC and a bit.
Here's a couple of photos I stole from facebook..
This was when some of them went to have Chilli crab without poor Ben and I who had to stay behind for band practice..
Not that band practice was any less fun :)
Here is Cheok with the classic "OH! I AM SOOOO FULL" look.
Serves you right for eating chilli crab without us! :P
And I LOVE this photo of Hannah.

It's a perfect profile picture :)
I have to proclaim that she is one of the best room mates I've had.
She sleeps like a LOG.
A very still and silent LOG.
awesome.
This week is pretty packed with church anniversary happening this weekend.
I feel a tiny bit sleep deprived since I didn't get the chance to catch up on sleep after YMLC.
But there is just too much to do and too much I want to do.
Like now, I am suppose to be taking the opportunity to nap but my library books are due today and the last book is too interesting to put down.
It's called Hex and the city, Enchanted Inc.
This book is kinda like Harry Potter meets chick lit.
Pretty amazing even though I'm only at chapter five...
okay.
Enough blabbering.
I'm going back to my book so that I can finish it by today and maybe avoid the fine :)

YMLC 2010
I had the BEST weekend ever :)
YMLC this year was nothing short of awesome...
In the 3 days, I not only experienced the biggest struggle in my 12 years of playing the keyboards for worship,
I also experienced the BEST time of worship while presenting my gift of music to the Lord.
IT. WAS. A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
I loved how we didn't have enough people to form a band for YMLC and so we had to invite people from other churches to help us out...
and how that sort of made our church band a METHODIST CHURCH band rather than the TPMC band :)
I love how I got the chance to serve alongside Quen for both of the worship sessions I played in..
But I especially love how God reminded me how very inadequate I am and how I would not be able to accomplish much depending on my human ability.
I am absolutely amazed at how He gave me first hand experience of how He is glorified through my weaknesses.
I am so amazed :)

Fruit Salad
TODAY WAS SO AWESOME.
I met up with shir and cheok for lunch this afternoon to celebrate Cheok's new found freedom..
what an awesome birthday present for himself :)
We saw Shir's newly renovated house..
which was REALLY REALLY NICE!!!
She has a walk-in-wardrobe.
ENVIOUS TO THE MAX! even though it's a tiny one..
BUT STILL!
Shir and I met Teresa after that to go to Comex to visit Andrea..
and they wanted to look for stuff at the fair.
I don't like Comex for two main reasons.
1. SO CROWDED :(
I do not like crowds. ever.
2. I have to say no to many many people who keep offering to give me brochures and stuff.
I feel very mean.
and after a while I get a bit irritated.
Some guy came up to me and asked me to sign up for some savings plan thing with UOB and I told him NO THANK YOU.
but he still went on and on!!!
and so (I confess here with a very heavy heart.. ok.. maybe not VERY heavy.) I lied to him and said I stay in Australia and never plan to come back to Singapore to stay and so NO, I will not be able to sign up for whatever plan he is talking to me about.
Anyway, we managed to find some of the stuff we were looking for after walking for three long hours.
and of course, we also bought some things we weren't looking for :P
BUT our shopping wasn't over yet!
We headed to the body shop sale after that,
thanks to Andrea Lee who notified us of this EVIL.
I would like to say that we went crazy and bought more than A HUNDRED DOLLARS worth of items...
but in actual fact, only Teresa Chan went crazy..
She bought MORE than what Shirlene and I bought in total.
But I didn't buy a lot only because body shop items tend to be very strongly scented which I don't really like..
except when they smell yummy :)
We walked for more than FOUR WHOLE HOURS in total.
which actually isn't a lot because I used to be able to do a lot more..
but somehow, when we finally sat down for dinner I felt like my legs were sighing in GREAT relief.
All in all, it was a very good day.
Meeting up with girl friends will always be awesome :)

boy trouble
I've been reading chick lit quite a lot recently..
and my view of men is now a little less than optimistic.
The books basically warn us that most men are wolves in sheep clothing..
and they are more often than not, jerks.
BUT don't lose hope!
Because one day (when you've reached the end of your novel) you'll find the one good man that's left on earth.
On the way to dinner today, I heard the boy behind me ask his friend in the most nonchalant manner: "So you think I should break up with my girlfriend today or tomorrow?" before moving on to discuss the reasons why all his friends don't like his girlfriend.
THIS is probably why so many girls are afraid to be themselves around the guys they like.
It seems that BGR is no longer just a relationship between one boy and one girl..
It has evolved to involve the entire social circle of both parties.
And this is probably why we need magazine write ups and Google to let us know what to do and not to do in order to be the perfect girlfriend.
Being ourselves won't work because that will involve doing half of the 'do not' list.
At this point, the more confident half of the female species will say "Forget these jerks. You are worth so much more."
But seriously?
Hands up all who have caught themselves being someone totally different in front of someone you desired.
See?
The reality is that no matter how painful it is to betray our true self, most of us do it anyway...
blame it on the rush of emotions that serve to inhibit our ability to make rational decisions.
So how?
If you are of the brave variety, then you wouldn't have much a problem..
But if you are from the less confident group you'd better start training yourself to stay rational in emotionally charged situations (although people might start thinking you are a robot), or else start PRAYING LIKE CRAZY for the decent guy and hope that your heart doesn't get broken too many times while waiting for the end of your novel.
