I was hoping and praying I'd be a little busier so that I don't feel like such a bum.
The thing about praying is that my prayers always seem to get answered when I least expect it :S
Most of my friends are either busy with work or school
But my social life just got boosted a little because I now have a fellow slacker!
June just resigned from her job and is free till the end of November
And because I'm her only 'jobless' friend, she's been urging me to pass time with her...
I've got a workshop to be at and a GB camp devotion to give next week,
a work trial lined up in 2 weeks,
and yesterday I received another work assignment which I am to start with in a week (another prayer answered)
and just this morning I got called to help Truthmin again.
I have actually reached the point where I'm so busy I'm going to have to cab from point A to B to C next Wednesday just to get to all my appointments.
That's going to be an experience!
On top of all of this, I also have to make some time for driving because my test is pretty soon!
I'm totally not complaining!
Not yet anyway.
All this is actually quite thrilling because it's been a long time since I've been so 'active in life'.
And it's just going to get better from this point :)
Shing's coming back (yay!)
And I really want to fire up the oven some time soon.
Recently I've found that I haven't thought about baking much.
The last time I baked was when I made scones..
that was early this month...
It's almost November already and all I've made the whole of October were scones!
Amazing.
I've been able to occupy my mind to the point that I haven't thought about baking!
I plan to make a whole load of Christmas cookies though!
I hope I'll find time and energy to do that!

True strength is being able to eat a bar of chocolate without feeling guilty- Dorothy Koomson
Lydia came back from Australia and stayed for a day before flying off to India for her medical internship.
I realized I missed her quite a bit and it was nice to see my sister again.
Yesterday was particularly interesting because all our boyfriends came over to our house...
although they weren't ALL there at the same time...
It would be particularly fun when that finally happens :)
Lydia brought back NINE family size chocolate bars (I'm so dead)
and FIVE packets of tim tams (dead times two).
She came back on saturday and I've already consumed half a family bar.
but HEY! it's a slight 'improvement' seeing my usual consumption rate is one family bar every two days :P
Today, I realized that the strange conversations Quen and I have are the same type of conversations I sometimes try to have with my sisters.
The huge difference is that Lydia and Leah always respond either by rolling their eyes or giving me the 'you are retarded' stare...
so the conversations never get very far.
Quen on the other end encourages these weird flights of fantasy and contributes to it using his own wild imagination.
I always knew we had the weirdest and most nonsensical conversations
and I always end them by exclaiming how very weird he is
but today I suddenly realise I've always been secretly like this too............

Eight
Today has been extremely productive.
After work this morning, I decided to walk all the way back home instead of take the bus...
Had to work of that family size bar of chocolate I consumed, somehow!
Dropped by the coffee shop and got some lunch,
came home and pigged out AGAIN. (I really should lock away the junk food.)
Booked my practical driving test :S (I am feeling so nervous already)
and then showered, and napped.
Woke up and felt like someone turned my room into an oven even though I had BOTH the aircon and fan on (weird horrible weather)
Decided I needed to exercise again because of the binge I had in the afternoon,
looked at the laundry basket and thought someone really needs to do the laundry.
SO, I did the laundry.
And then I couldn't stop.
I shook out the carpet, swept up the place, neatened out the wires under my desk, used the magic clean swivel thing and went through my room thrice (you wouldn't believe how dusty it was), washed the toilets, changed the sheets, cleared the bins.
Then I did up the chord sheet for this Sunday and sent it out.
Now I feel so accomplished :)
I was about to reward myself with ice cream....
someone REALLY needs to lock up the junk food.

dada, chocolate and teleportation (almost!)
My dad is going through this strange phase...
I think he's a little overstressed or something.
He sent us an email today and signed off as 'dada'.
NEVER have we called him dada.. hahahaha...
so random!
my dad's sho kewt.
I'm also going through this strange phase..
I can't seem to eat enough chocolate.
It's a terrible phase.
I bought a bar and finished half of it in a blink.
This has to stop somehow.
I already cannot keep my stomach away from ice cream.
Adding chocolate to the list of food I can't say no to is NOT good.
Anyway, I just had a long awaited sisters night out :)
Although Lydia wasn't physically there with us we had her on whatsapp ;)
the wonders of technology now... (remember, teleportation coming soon!)
We should do this more often :)

Three posts in one day! wow!
But I guess the first one doesn't count because it was technically written late last night.
but because it was past 12 midnight and blah blah blah... you get the picture.
and the only reason why I'm blogging again today is because I re-read my earlier blog post and found out that blogging with a sleep deprived mind led to redundant words.
like when I said 'relive the day a second time'.
I did the exact thing those annoying collagen juice advertisements do:
'VISIBLE goodness YOU CAN SEE'.
and I missed out an 'I' somewhere in the post.
but I'm too lazy to correct it and repost it.
so I'll just type an extra 'I' in this post to make up for the last one.
I.
And to (hopefully) avoid anymore mistakes,
this post, short.
yeah.
definitely staying away from caffeine.

Chugachugachugachuga CHOO CHOO!
The Hong Kong milk tea I had during yesterday's dinner has caused a whole lot of trouble.
Caffeine tends to induce a whole lot of unwanted brain activity.
Last night my body was so tired but my brain was running at full speed.
It also made me pee a lot so I kept having to crawl out of bed to go to the toilet.
that also contributed to the lack of sleep.
Even reading my final theory book didn't putting me to sleep like it normally does.
in the short four hours of sleep managed to have, I played a very brain draining board game which I won't even attempt to describe because I don't even really know the rules of the game.
I won though! (just for the record).
and I also taught keyboards in a workshop in MGS.
All in four short hours.
But of course, according to Inception, 4 hours in real life is a lot more in dream state.
But anyway, all this is so annoying because the stuff that I dreamt about is what happened in my real conscious life yesterday.
I was helping out in a band workshop in MGS in the morning, and then I played boardgames with Quen's cell yesterday evening.
ok. not really BOARDgames.. but card games..
but my brain drain game also involved a whole lot of cards.
It was like reliving the day for the second time.
and then I attempted to nap this afternoon to make up for the lack of proper sleep
but I watched CSI just before my nap
so I dreamt of a KILLER. (WHAT?!?)
I think I helped to catch him though..
I only managed to sleep for about half an hour.
And you know how sometimes you say the dumbest thing,
and then it replays in your head until you say something else stupid that trumps the previous stupid thing you said?
yeah.
It's totally happening in my head now.
Just that I said a whole lot of equally dumb things yesterday and they are taking turns to induce mental *palmfaces* in my little overworked brain now.
I am SO staying away from caffeine for as long as I remember to.

Bubbles and Butterflies
My mind is in a bit of a whirl.
Almost three months after I did a job application 'spree' I am getting called in for interviews.
I feel pretty excited about this change of events but I am also pretty scared...
Scared because this means the time for major decision making is near,
but excited to see what could be ahead in the next year.
I am actually feeling quite anxious at this moment.
My stomach is churning with nervousness and anticipation even though interviews only start next week.
It's going to be a time of earnest prayer and seeking direction as to what God wants me to do.
not that I haven't been praying about my future...
but it definitely will be on my mind much much more than usual.
So it seems like my bumming days are not going to last for long...
though recently I haven't really had that much of a chance to bum anyway.
I like the change.
I like the thought of having something to do every day.
To have something I HAVE to do every day.
It's nice to be busier...
I like the thought of being able to earnestly tell people that I am a working adult, and actually have a real full time job to describe to them.
But that's because I feel a little too free and useless at the moment.
I know that once I start work, I'm going to miss my bumming days a little.
But I'm not a kid anymore.
It's time to grow up and do something useful.

going green
When I opened the freezer to look for something to eat, I found a whole truckload of vegetarian food.
Leah's now a vegetarian because she thinks it is cruel to eat animals.
So my parents, being all supportive, bought all the vegetarian food they could find.
I am quite fascinated at the amount of mock meat items there appears to be...
There is vegetarian LUNCHEON MEAT, vegetarian burger patties, vegetarian STEAK....
I wonder what they taste like.
We had vegetarian food last week and there was sweet and sour mock pork ribs or something..
it turned out tasting quite nice.
Not at all like the tofu/taokee skin tasting things you get at the vegetarian stores in the hawker centres.
My mom was just saying it might be good for the whole family to turn vegetarian.
I don't know if I can do that...
I don't NEED to eat meat, but I still like the occasional steak..
and I don't think I can last long if I don't get to eat sweet and sour pork.
But maybe we'll find some place that does a good mock version...
hmmmmm...

Our Kids Will Do it Differently
I met up with Mr Tan, my math teacher from secondary school, today for lunch.
It was a little strange but he didn't look like he aged AT ALL..
which is kinda amazing!
He looked a little smaller than what I remembered him to be but maybe that is because I've grown taller since sec 4.
We somehow started talking about long distance relationships and how he and his wife went through two years of that.
They only had emails in the second year of the two years and had to survive on those calling cards the maids buy from lucky plaza.
This was even BEFORE the time they had handphones!!!
A.N.C.I.E.N.T.
Now, there is Skype, Facebook, MSN, Gchat, and countless other free mediums for us to use and yet some of us still find it hard to 'keep in touch' and sustain a long distance relationship.
Anyway, I was just thinking...
The oldies probably thought handphones and email was like WOAH HIGHTECH.
like how we kinda think about Skype and the rest.
Although I think we take things for granted more than our parents.
But in the last two decades, we have progressed SO MUCH.
Can you imagine what it'll be like for our CHILDREN?
Teleportation might no longer be something we joke about.
IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE POSSIBLE!
When we had phone calls, we complain that there is the risk of miscommunication due to the lack of facial cues.
Then came skype but it's not the same as actually being physically next to each other and you don't get real time updates.
then video calls on phones were introduced but it's still not the same as being physically next to each other.
So the only logical progression is TELEPORTATION.
RIGHT?
Imagine future conversations:
Me: Hey son, can you help me with the groceries today?
Son: Sorry. I have a date with my girlfriend today. We are meeting in Brazil to try their ambrosia.
Me: Oh ok. can you help me get a couple of Havis then?
SO COOL DON'T YOU THINK??
can't wait! :)

Personal Chocolate Day
Yesterday I was craving for chocolate SO BADLY.
yes. the same day I puked my breakfast out.
No one said you can't want to eat chocolate right after spewing breakfast.
(Actually I find that I eat the most junk food when I am ill. It helps me get better.)
But to my great despair, I found out that my darling sister finished ALL THE CHOCOLATE IN THE HOUSE
There wasn't A SQUARE OF CHOCOLATE left in the ENTIRE HOUSE.
upset.
I tried to save myself by using chocolate Ovaltine as a replacement but it doesn't even come close.
I don't even know what happened to the bottle of nutella!
when you need it, it's never there.
oooohhhh..
maybe I used it up when I made these.
oops.
But anyway, I decided that since I couldn't have chocolate yesterday, the WHOLE of today would be dedicated to chocolate.
Also because it's been a particularly rough day...
I had this huge headache that kept me up the whole night and it persisted on throughout the day..
I felt so blah I couldn't even master up energy to run after the bus :(
and then there was this scary encounter with a strange man outside church :((
and I kinda just had a second vomit episode :(((
I celebrated Personal chocolate day one with a BOOST BAR.
I grew to love these while in Australia.
It's like milk chocolate, caramel and biscuit.
Snickers are chewy but have peanuts (yuck) and Mars bars have almonds (Ew).
It's like the only chewy bar I know without nuts (I think).
I used to love mars bars because of how chewy they were due to the caramel but I really hated the nuts.
and so when I found Boost, WOAH.
I had a rehearsal in church in the evening after which I met some guy who wanted to ask me to play at RESORTS WORLD because he said I played really well during the rehearsal?!?
He asked me for my number so he could contact me but I managed to leave him with just my email.
Quen said I should have given him my fake email.
I think I should have too..
But I was in quite a shock and I totally didn't know what to do.
I really hope I don't meet him again.
and then there was supper with some of the church people and Quen.
I had bandung which probably was the worst choice ever since it was more like condense milk with a smidge of rose syrup.
and that's probably why it came right out and went down the toilet the minute I reached home.
I think I'm staying away from bandung for a while.
After today, I think there is a need for MORE chocolate.
Maybe tomorrow should be Personal Chocolate Day Two :P

Stomach flu-be-gone
Yesterday, Leah suddenly started puking and she found out she got the stomach flu.
On our way back from the doctor's, I just jokingly commented that it'll be cool if I got it too.
NEVER DO THAT.
This morning, I had the worst stomach cramps ever and my breakfast exited my stomach and went down the toilet the unnatural way.
I thought I was going to die.
not fun.
BUT I'm all better.
Yes, I recovered really quickly.
Leah's upset I did because she hoped I could suffer together with her.
Such a lovely sister.. hahaha..
But seriously, Thank God for healing me so quickly because there is so much to do this weekend!
There is absolutely no time for a stomach flu.

No More Teen
Today was quite intense.
It was like a major reality-of-no-longer-a-teen-hit-me-in-the-face day.
How come we never get taught how to send professional emails, or how you should talk to your client or potential boss, what questions you can and cannot ask when considering a job offer, how to make decisions that may affect the course of your LIFE in the first place, or what to do when someone you haven't heard from since JC calls you up and unloads a whole story of 'my friend' to you and expects you to give a PROFESSIONAL opinion on her possible mental illness based on some stories just because you studied psychology.
ok. the last one was kinda easy I guess.
Just told him: if your friend is not an autistic kid from the age of 2-7yrs, I have no idea.
although he still talked to me for almost an hour trying to squeeze something out of me..
I am going to repaint my toenails blue because proper adults don't have blue toenails.
and maybe have ice cream for dinner.
and do teenager-ish stuff just because I've been forced to be an adult for too much of today.
I also need a long shower NOW.

Twenty plus.
Hmmm... Let's see.
1. Awesome theatre production with the best person in the world on Saturday
Nanta was SERIOUSLY awesome.
I was CAPTIVATED throughout the show.
2. Great experience serving with the Truthmin band early this morning at MCI..
get this.
NO rehearsal, yet awesome worship.
Not that this should be a standard.
But the team was REALLY relaxed
The whole idea was just to give your best and not get caught up with stuff like 'WHAT RIFF SHOULD BE HERE'.
All the songs were in easy keys too so we didn't need to worry about strange or difficult chords.
This allowed me to relax and to truly worship while serving.
And God took care of the rest.
We became smaller and God took the center stage :)
3. Strange lunch with some of the Truthmin people..
but that led to new friends :)
4. Presents and a sweet note from Leah, my birthday buddy since 1990
I can't think of anything better than sharing my birthday with my sis.
5. Free ice cream at Island Creamery
6. Saboteur, ice cream(again) and scones with the Churchies
7. A surprise filled black merc :D
8. Dinner at grandma's which is always super filling and delicious.
We NEVER know when to stop.
We always tell ourselves to stop when we are 70% full because there is always more to eat AFTER dinner..
but that NEVER happens.
9. Quality time with Quen :)
BEST birthday yet.
Thanks to ALL the well wishes even though I didn't display my birthday on FB.
and thanks to every one who made this year extra special.
YOU ARE THE BEST.
and.......

SCONES

I am very pleased.
I only took about an hour to bake these scones compared to the average THREE hours needed for cookies!
I didn't have round cookie cutters so I used my heart shaped ones
Some of them didn't keep the shape well and came out looking like deformed hearts.
BUT they are EVERY BIT OF MMMMMM when eaten warm with a huge slice of butter or whipped cream.
MMMMMM...
When you taste this good, looks don't matter anymore.
I'm going to spend the next hour on the couch with my Sophie Kinsella book and a couple more of these warm scones.
